Overview of the TOEFL iBT Test

The entire TOEFL iBT takes approximately **four hours** to complete in one day. The sections are completed in order: **Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing**. A **ten-minute break** is given after the Listening section.

TOEFL General Training Writing (Paper Format)

Element Description
Time / Questions 60 minutes, 2 tasks.
Task 1 Respond to a situation, e.g., writing a letter requesting information or explaining a situation.
Task 2 Write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem.
Answering Answers must be written in full in the answer booklet. Notes or bullet points are not acceptable.

TOEFL General Training Speaking (Paper Format)

Element Description
Format / Timing Oral interview (recorded) between test taker and examiner, 11–14 minutes.
Structure Three parts, each fulfilling a specific function in terms of interaction pattern and task output.
